It translates nicely the Spanish expression, but, as in all translations, it doesn't quite cover all the connotations. "Perro" can also mean something like "bad motherfucker", or "bad ass" the term "perrĂ³n" being a superlative. <BR/><BR/>I agree that recent Mexican films are "bleak", but so is, also, Mexican "reality", whatever that is. Amores Perros was very obviously influenced by films like Trainspotting and Shallow Grave, though. British films have also been traditionally quite "bleak".
